A Short History (1980-1986)
Formed in the opening of 1980 based in their own rehearsal studio in the City of London, Prime Cut played straight Original Rock and Roll. Classed as a true good English Rock Band. Original members being Johnny Jones, (Guitars, Vocals) Peter Bloomfield (Lead Vocal, Guitar) (a.k.a. Marciotti), Andy Rowe (Bass Guitar) and Brian Davidson (The Nice, Refugee) on Drums.
The band quickly gathered momentum in the early eighties playing all the best UK venues, constantly chasing record contracts and recording various demo tapes.
After a two year period Brian Davidson left the band to pursue a further music career; and his replacement on the drums was Paul 'Chops' Cuthbert. Paul had played in many London Rock bands and quickly made a great impact as a suitable replacement for Brian.
1983 saw Andy Rowe grow tired of the band. His replacement was Leigh Tarrant, who had previously played in bands such as 'The Unexplained' and 'G.B.H.'
1983 was an exhaustive time for the band who were constantly gigging and also recording demos of which some can be heard on 'Prime Cut - The Collection' CD. released in the fall of 1995. Some fine tunes sprang from this period such as the popular live classics 'Strange Dream', 'Poor Boy' and 'Keep you In Mind', of which the last two were recorded for the John Peel show live at Maida Vales' BBC Recording Studios.
1984 and 1985 were equally busy times for the band and included notable appearances with other bands such as 'The Dirty Strangers' and the Worldwide renowned 'Kodo' drummers, at London's Jubilee Gardens. The band played sets in fine form and received good recognition from the UK music press.
Christmas 1985 the band finally called it a day; and each member went onto further music projects over the next few years (see below).
Aftermath
Much has happened to each member after the band split up in early 1986; and recently a lot of current activity shows new recordings of some of the bands classic numbers, some of which can be purchased on CD, from this web site.
Peter Bloomfield has worked very much in creating new music; and has worked with the band 'Victims of Gravity' and has also promoted new acts. He has worked with Leigh Tarrant on the 'Close to the Hype' project - 'Flame of Love' which was newly recorded in 1996, with Hamish Stuart (Average White Band, Paul McCartney's Band) and keyboard man Brian Short.
Paul Cuthbert went into forming his own rehearsal and recording studios; and has played many sessions for various bands over the years.
Johnny Jones made a solo track back in 1986 with Leigh Tarrant and Paul Cuthbert entitled 'Remain' which can be heard on 'Prime Cut - The Collection'. October 1999 saw the release of another solo project with Leigh Tarrant entitled 'Don't Count' under the name 'Question?'. The track also features the keyboard playing of Brian Short.
Leigh Tarrant has worked with two bands since leaving Prime Cut; and has worked on solo projects such as 'Close to the Hype - Flame of Love' and 'Don't Count' (see above). Leigh is currently working with an Ad Agency Band.
